What's on in Thanet: Christmas Week

Things to do and see in Thanet during Christmas Week.

With Christmas almost here have you been ice skating, singing carols, visiting Santa and attending Christmas parties? To be honest I (Matt) could not find much to put in this edition of What's on but I will update it as and when other things are brought to my attention.

Whatever else you do this week we hope that you have a fabulous Christmas.

Catching the christmas tree

Monday

To be honest we expect that most people will be busy Christmas shopping and running arround doing things. Skip to the end to see the list of pantos and all week long events happening in Thanet. There's not much (nothing in fact) planned just for today that we could find but please comment if you know of anything.

The buses today run according to "School Holiday timetables" (more info).

The Christmas Jam at The Chapel

The Christmas Jam at The Chapel this Monday evening coming ! Musical merriment from Milky Negro, Rosa Ramirez & Griff Rising plus more in the pipeline. See Event Page for more details.

Tuesday

Tuesday being Christmas Eve most churches (especially the more traditional ones) will more than likely be running Midnight Mass. An opportunity for some late night carol singing.

Skip to the end to see the list of pantos and all week long events happening in Thanet.

The buses run according to "School Holiday timetables". However Loop and Breeze will finish running between 8pm and 10pm (more info)

Chritmas Eve Roots Locker Special

Say hello to Christmas in Broadstairs at the Little Albion Inn with Hebden, Jenks and Special Guests. Event Page.

Wednesday

Today is Christmas. The buses are not running (more info) and to be honest you should be spending time with someone, anyone, who loves you, or failing that likes you a fair bit.

Seriously, enjoy being good to each other and have a great day.

Doctor Who and other telly

If you are a geek like me then you will be watching Doctor Who on your telly. What do you plan to watch (or avoid) on Christmas day?

Thursday

The buses are "sort of" running and probably enough to get you to the crazy sales if you like that sort of thing. The Loop will be running every twenty minutes but that is all (more info).

Skip to the end to see the list of pantos and all week long events happening in Thanet.

Friday

In addition to the pantos and ice skating happening there are a few other events happening as always on a Friday night.

Totally Wired Margate Presents: the NANDOS special

Saturday and Sunday

So far I have not found many events going on see below for pantos and other events running all week. The buses are running on a reduced timetable for most of the weekend (more info).

It's ridiculous in the 21st century that no buses or trains run on Christmas Day, unlike most other European countries. My mother lives 12 miles away, and because I don't drive (and I don't fancy cycling back after a Christmas dinner) we both spend Christmas Day alone each year.

The problem with that requirement is finding people willing to work on those days and transport companies willing to pay the premium for it. Without a good number of ethnic minorities from cultural backgrounds where Christmas is not celebrated we'd not even have cabs available. For buses and trains over the holidays we would need a bigger influx of East Europeans.

Not just Eastern Europeans are willing to work on holidays. Go to any care home.

Anyway, if anything most European Countries are more strictly Christian than the UK.

Your understanding of our European cousins is a bit limited but I take your point that in some service sectors faith is a motivating factor to give to those less fortunate. However my original point about finding workers and wage payers willing to run transportation over the holidays still stands.
