Turner Board Thankfully Idiot Free

The big buzz at the moment is that the Turner Contemporary have put together a board of directors. The thing that has a few people upset is that so few people from Thanet or even Kent are on this board. However with the likes of Roly Keating and Sir David Manning in there maybe we have a hope of seeing some Turner works in the Turner Centre.

Councillor Clive Hart is said to be "disappointed" that the members of the board have less connection to Margate. Whereas I'm just happy about the minimal influence of our local council. Maybe with actual talent involved now it might be a project of worth.

This also means that the lack of direction beyond product launches and lunches could now be thing of the past. We might even see progress.

What do you think?

This is set to be a project of regional, national, and international importance, and the Board both reflects and supports that assertion.

There are any number of 'locals' who would believe they have the necessary skils; but don't. If this is going to succeed, and it must, it needs the right skills and networks.

Well done to those who recruited such a glittering array. Perhaps it is really time to get behind this and make it succeed.

I think it has a real hope now. So yes well done to the recruiters. Let's hope some of the glitter rubs off locally.

This week's announcement is superb news. The calibre of the board members and the fact that these individuals are committing a significant amount of their time to be involved with this project speaks volumes about the importance of the Turner Contemporary. I hope the anti's of Thanet give this a little thought.

Re Wells, Doesn't Margate's Tracy as a local, have the necessary artistic skills and networking skills? Folkestone recently benefited greatly from Tracy's imput and gained tv publicity etc and put the town on the map. It does seem odd that TDC has not called on her talents.....

Didn't she say something about Margate being worthless or something equally pleasant about the area?

Let's hope so if only for the publicity (I'm not sure if I would actually show up myself however...)
