Thanet Star - actively improving Thanet one idea at a time

Time for the satire?

One of the things I am really looking forward to is the satire in which I expect to feature over the next year. After all I've sided with a political party; I'm standing for TDC; I run a number of blogs some of which are now funded by dontations; and, very important here, I'm a funny looking chap with a big hat and facial hair.

Not to mention that I am mildly dyslexic and prone to making spelling mistakes.

The material for a skillful satirist is almost endless. It's a shame Birty and ECR are no longer active.

Being funny is hard work - is anyone up to the task?

As you say Matt, being funny is hard work. Also depends what you consider to be satire. There’s a huge continuum between satire and slander. You got a mention on the Reaper’s onearse (OAIK) blog but Wikipedia describes satire as having the aim of using wit as a constructive social criticism. There’s nothing constructive about that blog. The Reaper is clearly not up to the task.

OAIK is a thinly disguised blog claiming to cut through bulls/t which was really set up with the purpose of attacking Mark Nottingham and aiming to prevent the truth about local Labour coming out. Of course when people started noticing this and putting 2+2 together (and making 4) and potentially embarrassing Labour, I reckon they had to branch out a bit to cover their tracks. Now, anyone who dared to speak their mind supporting Mark or who spoke against Clive Hart and his buddies became the next target. Hence the latest Reaper post, really having another attack at Tony Flaig after his excellent coverage on the BigNews blog and you Matt for the part you have played in exposing some of their shoddy conduct.

No doubt Reaper has more posts prepared attacking those who seek openness and will conspicuously fail to criticise Clive Hart and his associates.

I admire you and Tony for doing the right thing. Corruption in whatever manner should be exposed. You did the right thing in not joining local Labour Matt. You’re too good for them and you won’t be tarred when the truth does come out. Good luck in the elections.

Local labour to local Lib Dem. So the reaper was right about him then?

"Observer" I haven't the slightest idea what you are talking about. If you mean my party affiliation I considered a number of parties, Conservative, Labour, Lib-Dem, Green. I should point out that you appear to be the only fan of OAIK.
