Manston's Taiwanese Hope
A delegation of Taiwanese investors should have visited Manston airport this afternoon thanks to the Lib-Dems.
According to the Thanet Gazette
envoys from the Taipei Representative Office in the UK have been invited to the airport today by Liberal Democrat Prospective Parliamentary Candidate (PPC) for Thanet North George Cunningham.
Cunningham (Thanet North) along with Russ Timpson (Lib-dem PPC for Thanet South) have been adiment that not only can Manston be saved that it can be run profitably. An opinion that, we understand, the Thanet and East Kent Chamber of Commerce agrees with.
Also according to the Thanet Gazette the Taiwanese investors
will be met by Liberal Democrat PPC for South Thanet Russ Timpson, the chief executive of Thanet and East Kent Chamber David Foley and managers of the airport.
One of the challenges that Lib-Dem Timpson idenitified as vital for Manston was that of maintaining and renewing the airports unique collection of licenses which would make it such a viable business prospect. The closure, of course, threatens that.
Fortunatly for Manston the aviation minister, Robert Goodwill, has (according to Business for Kent) waded into the fight for Manston telling the House of Commons that the department of transport is
more than happy to help with any Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) licensing issues relating to the Airport.
With a compulsory purchase order decision possibly being delivered inside of a month this is a good time to be considering investing even if the current owner is trying to asset strip the airport.
