100 Billion Euros - Where is our share?

According to George Cunningham the Chinese are all set to pour one hundred billion Euros into the UK.

The question is are we going to see any of that cash here?

The deal which is set to work itself out over the following decade is being brokered with the worlds fastest growing economy by diplomats in the EU.

So the question I want to put to you, the readers, is this: Will we be found stomping our feet and complaining about the "cost of the EU" or will we be ready to invite a good slice of that pie our way?

After all, if the money is coming it is just a question of do we want to enjoy some of it or stand by and miss out (again).

Beat this

I recently took a trip to London. On the way back I got totally stumped by this beastie.

Sudoko Puzzle

It is from the Evening Standard of Friday 31 October. I worked on it all the way home and never solved it so I thought I would inflict it on everyone else. In fact the experience inspired me to start a new Facebook group for fans of puzzles.

Are you better at these puzzles than I am? (I would not be surprised).

All I ask is that if you solve the puzzle keep the solution to yourself so other people can take a crack at it.

Thanet is not Boris Island says Johnson

According to Boris Johnson Thanet is too far away.

Johnson, with a background in something-other-than-airports, said in a tweet: we looked at Manston but decided it was just too far and wouldn't produce the regeneration...but good runway!!

Does Thanet need the EU?

I talk to North Thanet Lib-Dem candidate George Cunningham about the EU. What he said surprised me.

After I quizzed Cunningham about Manston I talked to him about the upcoming EU elections.

From the video:

  • Polish immigrants cost us only 75% of what they pay in taxes (a net gain)
  • Polish workers have been leaving the UK because Poland is doing that much better for being in the EU
  • We have a shortage of ICT skills to fill jobs in the UK
  • The EU was something that the UK founded
  • If the UK left the EU could do things that are against our interests and we could do nothing about it
  • Ireland attracts companies by being in the Eurozone and may have taken jobs with it.
  • 400,000 Jobs in Kent are related to being in the EU
  • 2m Brits (about 3% of the population) live on the continent
  • Open Borders with other EU countries has led to more crimes being solved

Some more interesting facts about the EU.

  • The amount we spend to be in the EU amounts to 19p in every £100 of tax
  • UK Businesses gain more in trade in a month than we spend in a year
  • France, Italy and Greece effectively subsidise our membership
  • If we could get EU dentists into Thanet we could solve the dentist shortage in the area

Live animal export (Video)

Shipping TV have made a short video about the live animal export trade.

According to the video the courts have ruled that this is legal and that the ports have to allow it.

What's your opinion on the export of animals for slaughter on the continent?
