Getting Started With Blogging

Lot's of credit to Michael Child who has started a blog to tell other people how to get started blogging. While the advice of using blogger.com might not be the best advice for a business (on the whole) it is a great place to get started if you have never blogger before. Blogs, forums, wikis and social media are not going to go away and are likely to be a big part of our lives one way or another.

Therefore it is highly recommended that all businessmen start a personal blog if only to get to know what blogging is and how it works.

Blogging is a valuable tool when addressing The Five Specific Goals of a Business Website. Not only can reputation and brand be enhanced but customer to business and business to customer communication is possible in new and ore interesting ways. Finally do not forget that blogs are already being used to earn money (on their own) and a well written blog can increase the number of leads you business enjoys.

Thanks Matt the reason I advocate using blogger is that everyone who blogs is familiar with it, there are no forms to fill in even if you don’t join, it lets me post from my pda and most importantly, blogger posts go straight onto Google right up near the top.

I find that when I comment on blogs that are hosted elsewhere, the comment often vanishes, I also find it irritating to have to fill in forms so often just don’t bother.

These are good points and something that the software development community needs to address. As for getting right in to Google - that's a side effect of the domain age (blogspot has been with us a long time) and domain age is a factor in the search results ordering.

I agree that for the average guy (or gal) on the street blogspot is sufficient for starting. Bigger business would be better advised to through some money into creating something a little more "branded" but other than that...

Feel free to cite liberally from anything I've written on the subject if it proves interesting and relevant to what you are writing about.
