Embracing NoNofollow

No, that is not a typers tick the word "no" appears twice. But what is NoNoFollow and how can is benifit , and ? To answer that I must first explain what NoFollow is.

It was proposed some time ago. It was suggested by some that it might be an answer to comment spam but even then many people were saying that this would not work. The reason they said (and they were right) is that comment spammers use automated processes and don't care much for the specific results only for the shear magnitude of of comments posted.

What the NoFollow does is adds an instruction to search engines to not follow a link. The hope was that if comments no longer passed "link love" to the commenter's blog then people would stop spamming. This did not work and has only served to isolate bloggers from each other and devalue commenting.

The NoNoFollow movement (and the similar DoFollow and I-Follow movements) aims to encourage bloggers to stop using the nofollow attribute on comments because all it does is punish your readers for no reason. We Thanet bloggers do not have the luxury of choking the flow of search engines across our blogs because we are already living in a choked environment.

Most but not all platforms automatically add nofollow to the comments. However, there are some (like Nucleus CMS) that allow the URL you type in the URL field to remain followed. Sadly this is not common.

If you start to search on this topic you are going to encounter a blogger by the name of Andy Beard. Andy is a strong believer in dofollow and puts a lot of effort into promoting it. Andy has compiled an extensive list of tools to help remove nofollow "Ultimate List of DoFollow & Nofollow Plugins - Banish Nofollow From Comments and Trackbacks". This list will cover the practicalities of removing nofollow to your blog.

If you followed my advice from my earlier post on social media you will by now have an account with Bumpzee. If you would like to advertise your new NoNoFollow status then you can join the NoNoFollow community at BumpZee. There you find Andy Beard (again) and a whole cast of follow dofollow bloggers.
