Do you want an East Kent Unitary Authority?

It's not specifically something that Thanet Star is proposing but it it is not incompatible with having a vote of no confidence in Thanet District Council but some on Facebook have suggested that we should have a unitary authority for East Kent.

What do you think?

Would ditching TDC and KCC in favour of an East Kent Unitary Authority (EKUA) which would take care of everything be good bad or indifferent?

I don't know whether this is TDC taking a step towards accountability.

It emerges then that the private military cadet group (whose street collections provided a Gazette photocall opportunity for the KATC supportive Roger Gale MP) may have obtain ed a street collection licence but the statutory requirement was not met ? The bit about a condition of the licence being that accounts verified by an accountant be submitted within a month of the collection.

The KATC leader, Clive Richards, went on to be Chair of Ramsgate Royal British Legion and Thanet organiser of the annual poppy day appeal.

Whilst I am not aware of any allegations of wrong doing. I do think that Ramsgate Town Council should do some due diligence tidying up. Get an explanation for the 2005 failure to account. Perhaps as part of the administration of grant aiding Ramsgate Carnival Cttee (I hear newly appointed Chair is ex Ramsgate RBL chair Clive Richards) and as part of grant aiding Ramsgate WW1 centenary cttee (I hear newly appointed chair is ex Ramsgate RBL chair Clive Richards)

Just to put some due diligence process on the record.

That is the way increment by increment to win the trust of the public.

It would be nice to think that a unitary authority would weaken some of the cronyism that goes on locally. TDC has improved since the regime change a few years ago, but they are having to live with the Latchford-Ezekiel inheritance and are being judged on that to a great extent, somewhat unfairly. Most of the things that have really annoyed people, such as the Pleasurama saga, are a result of cosying up to zombie property developers by the old guard. I'd be happy to give them another chance, but I think we ought to have a very great deal of transparency about organisations that councillors belong to - and perhaps even an explicit ban on freemasons. If that didn't make much difference then perhaps go for the unitary option!

Transparency is absolutely vital. I totally agree with you.
