Thanet Star

In an earlier article I suggested that were not taking part in however Tash from the children's library at has emailed me to correct me. It seems that I was mistaken an you can get BookStart packages from Margate library (which actually makes more sense).

Tash tells me that you "...can collect a pack from any library including Margate. Just take their baby's red record book and ask a member of staff."

Thanks, Tash for putting me right on that one.

When our son was 7 months old we were given a book Start pack from the Health Visitor.
What an excellent idea.

I had no idea that such young children would enjoy books.

So, I bought quite a few before he was even 1 year old and we regularly visited the library.

He would sit alone and look at the pictures for a long time - especially a book with photos of babies faces it it.

He loved me reading to him and every day he would pick up his books and bring them to me to read.

My little ones are just the same. There is something about babies that appeals to other babies I think. My four year old is the most advanced reader in her class being a good year ahead of her peers thanks mainly to reading and being read to at home.
