Thanet Creative Writers to become a charity

Local creative collective, Thanet Creative Writers, will shortly be transitioning into a charitable organisation.

Thanet Creative Writers founder, Matthew Brown, said since the foundation of Thanet Creative Writers in 2013 we have focused on supporting local writers, especially those just starting out. Up to this point, we have focused mostly on running our own groups and events but there is so much more we could be supporting. The time seems right to move beyond our own backyard and to contribute to the wider community.

We are hoping, he added, to work with other poet, writer, and creative groups to do the most good for the most people in Thanet within the realm of artistic expression with words. There are so many great initiatives already available in Thanet and we want to do our part in helping to ensure that they are a success.

Membership of Thanet Creative Writers' Charity is open to any individuals or organisations wishing to see creative writing promoted in Thanet.

The inaugural launch of Thanet Creative Writers as a charity takes place at Matthew Brown's home at 7.30pm on 2nd February (more details here).

Thanet Creative Writers quitely launched a new website a few months ago.

The site serves to host details of events run by the group along with advice on writing and other articles by local writers.

Thanet Creative Writers founder, Matthew Brown, said since the foundation of Thanet Creative Writers in 2013 we have always tried our best to support locals who feel that they have always wanted to write and yet, for different reasons, have never felt able. We believe that anyone, with the right support, can be a writer.

Business owners beg UKIP council not to destroy their livelihoods

A group of 22 small businesses are calling on the UKIP-run Thanet District Council to reconsider a sell-off that would mean closure for all 22 enterprises.

TDC have taken the decision to put the Thanet Enterprise Units (TEU) site in Broadstairs, Kent up for auction on February 6th.

The small businesses, some of which have been there for as long as 30 years, claim that they were not informed about the decision to sell the properties and that the district council have ignored inquiries for the last three years.

Collectively, these enterprise units represent 30,000 of yearly income to the council and generate approximately 800,000 worth of business in Thanet. UKIP are willing to sacrifice this for a one-off payday.

According to a Facebook page set up to protest the sell-off, UKIP leader Chris Wells has consistently ignored letters and emails from the business owners.
