Which is Laziest Party in TDC? (It might surprise you)

Which party worked hardest for you in Thanet District Council?

Not all parties are the same and today we can tell you who the laziest and hardest working parties are in Thanet District Council (TDC).

This is what the make up of TDC looks like at the moment (for this chart I have not adjusted for certain disgraced members and recently unlisted members of parties).

TDC Party make up 2015

Going from the council's own record of meeting attendance since the last election, as you would expect, the number of meetings attended roughly reflects this. Although some parties are clearly doing more than others.

This is what happens when we chart the work (in terms of meetings attended) by the parties (not such a big change). You might notice that some parties are doing more or less by a small amount (or so it seems) than their membership count might indicate.

Per Party Work in TDC

However when we rescale for party size something interesting is shown - there is a hard working group and a very lazy one too. It's not what you would think from these charts.

Vote Matthew Brown for TDC

Matthew is standing as a candidate for election to TDC in Dane Valley.

Matt, the founder of Thanet Star, is again standing for election to Thanet District Council in Dane Valley this year. He stood previously at the last elections and gave both Tory and Labour a run for their money.

between elections he has been campaigning on a number of issues and continues to fight for honesty and transparency in TDC.

Unlike other candidates, who say what you want to hear and then vanish, I am a local lad with the same interests in seeing things sorted out as everyone else. Says Matt. Unlike the Tory that was not even living in the same country or the Labour councillors that promise action but fail to deliver I actually care about Dane Valley and Millmead and want to make a difference. Win or lose I will still be here doing my best for the area where I live.

Matt will be published a series of editorials in the run up to the election talking about what he hopes to achieve.

Good luck figuring out your vote this year

One of the problems with being a voter is, that apart from that there are not many of us left, that council votes and national votes need sometimes to be flatly contradictory.

This year, unless you are a Lib-Dem voter, the chances are that to get the best deal all round you may need to vote very differently in each section.

For example if you live in Thanet South and plan on voting tactically then you are more than likely going to vote Labour to avoid getting UKIP. However at the council level the last thing you should be doing is letting Labour or UKIP anywhere near power. That said, you also would be an idiot to let the Conservatives back into TDC.

Likewise in Thanet North tactical voting really means Choosing between Conservatives (yet again) and Lib-Dem. Although you are likely to get Roger Gale back and doing very little however you vote. Seems fair... not. However in TDC you might (depending on your ward) have a choice to keep out either Labour or Conservative but not always both.

So when it comes to TDC what are your choices?

Dealing with Thanet's blog bullies

When I started blogging at Thanet Star the one thing I was absolutely determined to see was a sensible comment policy. So much so that it was the first thing I wrote.

Like all Thanet Blogs the first thing to happen was that those who want only to rubbish everything with vitriol and bile showed up. Perhaps they were thinking that here was a new playground for their special brand of trolling?

Quite soon I heard the cries of the trollishly inclined complaining about their "freedom of speech", their precious "freedom" to be as crude and unpleasant as they wished as if it was some god-given right. However I was not, am not, and will not allow this site to be home to that sort of negativity. There is no need for it. Sure, disagree with me all you want but attack the opinion not the person.

I am happy to discuss news and current events with anyone. I am happy to discuss viewpoints that differ from my own. I...

The simple fact of the matter is that Thanet blogging has fostered a bully culture. The bullies rule the comments in almost all the Thanet Blogs and the result is that all other forms of comment have been driven away.
