Thanet Star

Sales Madness at Tesco

A sharp eyed reader spotted this image of sales madness at Westwood Cross at 1:30am.

I would not want to be one of the poor checkout assistants working this shift.

Here we are now, arrest us

What is Thanet Star doing wrong that the police won't arrest us for blogging?

I feel like we Thanet Star writers are missing out on something here. So many bloggers and social media commenters have had police visits or legal threats and Thanet Star has had none.

I know that I am unlikely to be influenced by threats but how come the aggressive arm of politics in Thanet refuses to harass us too?

Walking across Africa

Thanet North Candidate George Cunningham will be giving a talk about his trek across Africa. It took him a few years to do it and I bet it was one heck of an experience.

If you are free Thursday (27th November) at around 7.30 pm then you might want to head over to Church House Gardens in Birchington.

Is Manston costing us jobs?

Rumour has it that a company in Kent will be leaving at a cost of 300 jobs because they need to be near an airport.

At this stage all I have is social media rumour and talk but is anyone able to provide anything more solid in terms of information?

Meet Matthew Munson, An author from Thanet

Thanet is a place where writers do their thing.

Only yesterday we reported that there were not one but two writer's meet-ups taking place in Thanet and to demonstrate that this is not a fluke but something of a growing trend allow me to introduce to you Thanet Author, Matthew Munson.

Matthew Munson's debut novel is Fall From Grace which follows the lives of three friends who find themselves caught in middle of the wars in Heaven which started over two thousand years ago. The second is called Leap of Faith and I will leave it up to you to read the synopsis for yourself.

Aside from having one of the best first names on the planet (disclosure: some author bias may exist), being a really nice bloke and writing book Matthew also finds time to produce a seriouse of video pod casts and hold down a full time job.

I heartily recommend you check out Matthew's books which can be picked up both online and from most good bookshops.

The writer's tool

How many more authors is Thanet keeping secret do you think?

Thanet puts pen to paper

Today is shaping up to be a day for writers.

Writer's Block

First there is a Novel Writers gathering in Ramsgate for folks taking part in NaNoWriMo (Gerrys Coffee & Art House, 4pm to 6pm) and later (7:30pm) in Broadstairs Thanet Creative Writers are meeting at The Chapel. In theory a person could make both of them.

Are you the type of person to express yourself well with words?

Someone does not like us?

Clearly Thanet Star has come to the attention of the less pleasant elements of the Internet.

Given the aggressive nature of some of the comments that happen around here that really is saying something.

I would like to thank DataRealm for their fantastic support throughout this whole episode. They have gone above and beyond the call of duty in helping to get this latest cyber-attack under control.

For the time being I have deactivated the spam log which means that if the AI did not like your comment then it will have been lost. This will give the server a lot more resources to serve requests even under unreasonable (abuse level) demand. Once the idiots who are doing this have given up I will reactivate it.

Beat this

I recently took a trip to London. On the way back I got totally stumped by this beastie.

Sudoko Puzzle

It is from the Evening Standard of Friday 31 October. I worked on it all the way home and never solved it so I thought I would inflict it on everyone else. In fact the experience inspired me to start a new Facebook group for fans of puzzles.

Are you better at these puzzles than I am? (I would not be surprised).

All I ask is that if you solve the puzzle keep the solution to yourself so other people can take a crack at it.
