Review: Lily's By The Sea

Thanet Star's contributors' family and friends are actually regulars at this local eatery on Margate High Street and I thought it was time enough that we share the love of the establishment and tell our readers just why, if you are looking for a place to eat in Margate, Lily's needs to be on top of the list of options.

Lily's By The Sea Margate External

Lily's slogan is “Friends Gather Here”, and it is truly appropriate. In my two hour visit I found myself in polite conversation with several different people, all of which told me they were regulars. Customers told me that they go here because “it's more than a place for eating and drink”, “it is great for socialising” and it is “very disabled friendly”.

I am very “choosy” when I eat out. This is because I choose not to spend money on food that, as far as I am concerned, I can prepare at home for a third of the price, and possibly cooked better. I decided to treat myself “just this once” (I normally only visit for a hot drink) at Lily's By The Sea, however, and I was pleasantly surprised that I did.

Bring A Little Therapeutic Laughter Into Your Life!

Laughter Yoga Group Activity

Thanet Star's Illisia Adams investigates a new form of therapy, just how much it can change your life, and the woman bringing it to Thanet.

I was recently contacted by Caroline Manning who asked for my help photographing her Laughter Yoga workshop. I was happy to oblige, and after attending the event and speaking with her and her students, I decided that I wanted to not only return for the next session to partake myself, but also to write about who she is and what she does so that others might become involved and – as the title of this article suggests – bring a little [therapeutic] laughter into [their] lives!

Who is Caroline Manning?
Caroline [Manning] has over twenty-five years of experience in nursing and computing and has combined these with her life coaching and healing work in the past ten years. She is a transformational coach, public speaker, published author and laughter leader. Her professional slogan is Stop Sacrificing. Be Yourself. Have It All.

She offers one-on-one transformational coaching and programs and group transformational work through laughter yoga to all ages in a wide variety of settings. She is the founder and leader of the Laughter Club which runs monthly in Broadstairs.

What is Laughter Yoga?
Laughter Yoga was created by Doctor Madan Kataria, a family doctor in India in 1995. It is based on the scientific evidence that we cannot tell the difference between fake and real laughter, so both have the same physical and mental benefits for us. It is practiced worldwide in thousands of laughter clubs in more than sixty-five countries.

Even celebrities are getting involved! Actor and Comedian John Cleese practices Laughter Yoga, as explained on Caroline [Manning]'s Blog.

Fancy a pint on me?

Convince me that your local is the best in Thanet and I will visit your local and buy you a pint.

What is your local like?

To get a beer on me (Matt) what you need to do is send Thanet Star an email (address is in the image above) and tell us a few words about your local.

Perhaps consider including a few photographs of your and your friends enjoying the fine establishment.

Don't forget to say what the pub is called and how I can find it and if you convince Matt that it is the best local in Thanet then Matt will meet you there and buy you a pint.

Is Gloag scaring away Manston investors?

Thanet's Liberal Democrats say that investor interest in Maston is sufficient to give the airport Airport another go but keeping it closed is doing a lot of harm.

The Liberal Democrat Thanet Team are calling for the owner of Manston Airport to reopen the airport and create the confidence necessary for investors to come in.

The demand from a team that includes significant expertise in this area comes amid indications that potential investors are now shying away from Manson because it has been closed.

Investors see the airport is no longer operational and worry that it's future is (as a result) uncertain which is the point at which previous enthusiasm for Manston proposals starts to evaporate.

Can Manston be saved and if so how?

Can Manston be saved? You tell us.

Manston Airport

There have been some (who shall remain nameless) who have suggested that Manston is too far gone, too expensive to save. We could never win a Compulsory Purchase Attempt against Ms Gloag's deep pockets, they say.

These same some have also suggested that the airport is non viable as a commercial operation. To which I have to say humbug to. I agree with the Lib-Dem PPCs George Cunningham and Rus Timpson - Manston can easily be run at a good profit if only the effort were made.

So I open the floor to you - can Manston actually be saved (and how) or is it too late?
