How to buy Thanet (part two)
Here is part two of my findings where I hint at what could be done with a quick slip of a credit card.
Last time I pointed out that www.thanet.eu was a domain name that was still for sale priced at $10 (which is about £6.50) and this was likely to help the site that uses this as it's name rank in the top 10 for the search "Thanet".
What else could you rank for?
Remembering that the site I link to offers domain privacy for free the person that chooses something like www.clive-hart.com or even www.clivehart.com could easily find themselves with a website that ranks first for the Labour leader's own name.
What a difference it could make if this was a pro-labour site verses it being a an anti-labour site. Yet no one has yet snapped up this bargan domain.
Given the amount of time left until the elections there is just the right amount of time to get a lot pf pages listed in Google with someone's opinion on not only Clive but Roger Latchford or Simon Moores or Bob Grove or any other candidate.
Now I know that elections are not won online (yet) but they can be heavily influenced especially among the younger voters. And some "fact" getting out on line or some smug blogger pretending to be you could do a lot of damage at the wrong time.
Think also what variations on Thanet 2011 could be used for. The first (and maybe second) site owner to put together an election specific site is likely to see a lot of traffic and have the benefit of being somewhere between "voice of the people" and "king-maker".
Google is going to be awash with people looking for "facts" as election day approaches and anyone wise enough to step up with a well timed and well ranked blog could impact opinion and take a hefty slice of the traffic. A good name is a huge boost towards ranking well and having a domain name that is the keywords you want to rank for does a lot of the hard work for you.
A Thanet election blog could be the jumping off point to a powerful new voice while a fake candidate could be the jumping off point to a damning public attack for which there may be no real antidote.
For council members that have p*ssed people off - prevention is better than cure.
Please note currency conversions are a rough estimate, do not take into account mark up taken by your bank or changes in the rate of exchange. If the the pound was said to have gained against the dollar or the dollar fell against the pound it means the price probably just went down for us lot.
