Thanet Star - actively improving Thanet one idea at a time

Has this election got legs in Thanet?

Is World Wide Web Founder and inventor Sir Tim Berners-Lee's contribution to democracy worth another Labour government? That's the question of the day as far as my vote is concerned.

On the one hand giving us the tools to see just how well the government is doing is an idealists wet dream. Government is held to account and everyone is (given time) better off for it.

On the other hand that would mean letting Labour have one more round in power...

Is Sir Tim Berners-Lee's contribution to democracy worth another Labour government?

Much of Sir Tim's work with the UK government focuses on making more data available. As much as possible in fact. Something that is good for a party that believes it is largely doing the right thing and not too good for those with something to hide....

It's a hard call and one that could give Labour the power it needs to cling on one last time. Certainly Conservatives are faced with a hard choice: back the project with Sir Tim Berners-Lee to remove it as an election decider but by doing so say that Labour got something (very) right OR shout it down and risk loosing votes from those that understand this great mans visionary impact on United Kingdom politics and the potential for real reform that will arise from the work he is doing.

As someone who never votes party political but considers the issues come voting time I am, in theory, part of the group that both parties need to address.

Then again, what hope would we have of ousting Mr Gale (Conservative) in favour of a fading political party? Furthermore with such a "safe seat" reputation can Thanet hope to have a voice at all?

Jackie Ashley: Targeting marginals is logical sense for Ashcroft and Whelan. But the system sucks all fire and clarity from party lines
